I am currently on a 1 year break between college and applying to medical schools. In college I did 3 quarters of research. I would prefer not to do more research because research does not appeal to me; I am interested in the human/patient-care side of medicine.

relevant stats:
- several ongoing volunteer involvement.
- 3.98 GPA
- 35 on the MCAT
- 3 quarters of research involvement (as mentioned), 0 publications.

–Thanks!

If you don't enjoy research, then there's really no reason you should continue it. You should volunteer in patient-care related activities because you're interested in that and your passion will come through in your application.

If your interest is in applying to top medical schools (and with your stats that's fair to want to do) then it is worth noting over 90% of those top schools have undergrads who did research and very research oriented on their own. Look, if you don't like research don't do research and you have done some research in the past so I don't think your chances are shot because of that but you should also consider how research oriented top schools are before applying to many of the top big name schools people with your stats often apply to. If you don't want to do research and that comes through in your app or interview what do you think ADCOMs at top schools so oriented in research will say and how would you enjoy going to schools that emphasize research when you arent interested in it?

I also simply don't think that top, research-oriented schools are a good fit for OP given his/her expressed disinterest in research. So he/she probably shouldn't be applying to them anyway. Instead, he/she would be better off at top primary-care focused schools. I think that would be a better fit.
