Hello All!

Been mostly a lurker, and tried the search threads for this, but I received mostly MCAT-focused answers, so I'll try here!

I'm a graduate student and haven't taken organic chem in years. That being said, I found orgo I very fair (great professor, I take no credit). My question is: do I really need orgo II? Would it be possible to do well on the DAT by using just Khan and a decent textbook?

Thanks for your time everyone!

You can try, but I am sure that a many concepts and reactions from Orgo 2 will be on the real DAT. Is orgo 2 a requirement for DAT? No. It might be for Dental school though.
If you can master the material using Khan, or chads or Kaplan , or Destroyer then go for it. Hope this helps.

I haven't found any dental school that doesn't require 1 year of orgo. The requirement isn't the problem; it's the time that's passed since my undergraduate education.

I should be more poignant with my question: how much of the DAT chemistry section is orgo 2 (for those of us on semester schedules)? I keep hearing that the MCAT has made trends to incorporate both the biology and organic sections to "go beyond" so to speak, but I'd like to hear what test takers have experienced.

Well on the DAT you have Diels Alder, OMP, Biochem, Azides all of which are Orgo 2 for my school so I would definitely say that orgo 2 is a requirement.

I know for my orgo 1 class, we basically stopped at substitution, elimination, and a few of the simple alkane(ene, yne) reactions. Orgo 2 we hit all the other ones. I would bet that there would be some reactions from orgo2 on the DAT. If you put in the time I'm sure you could still do well. A friend took the PCAT mid semester orgo 2 and did well enough to get into pharm school. So its possible, may just be a bit harder on you.

Thank you everyone for replying! I think I'm going to grind it out with Khan and my textbook. *fingers crossed*
A classroom environment gives a lot of benefits, but I don't think it's reasonable sacrifice with my thesis schedule.
