So right now I am waiting on 5 schools post interview. However assuming worst case scenario and I don't get in should I plan on retaking my MCAT that I took in January 2015? Someone told me that even though it has only been two years that schools are not taking the old mcat anymore.

If anyone has any knowledge or insight about that would be great.

Hmm well that sucks. That is about half my schools. Guess I get to start preparing for the MCAT again.

If you scored a 38 and weren't able to get into med school this cycle, your MCAT was not the problem. I would address other areas of your application and focus on applying to the remaining schools who accept the old MCAT next cycle. Only takes one acceptance.

Love the totally chill and non chalant attitude about preparing for the MCAT again though

misread OP why is there no post delete button 😵

I would wait it out unless you are waiting on t-20 schools. You will need to retake the MCAT because it will expire.

Whatever you decide, just don't get into the mindset that you'll ACE the MCAT without studying just because you scored well last time

Ya this is actually my 2nd application. Honestly the only things I feel like aren't good on my app is my gpa is a tad under 3.5 and i had a couple Ws. But extracurricularly I had at least a decent amount and a decent letters. However I did not feel strong on interviews this year. Definitely something I could work on.

Did you apply with the 38 the first time around? Anything you are not telling us like IAs , arrests, evidence of cheating? Clinical experience solid? How long was your school list and what schools were on it?

Any evidence of cheating would be an IA lol

Haha no. For clinical experience I volunteered with a childrens hospital for over 200 hours I also volunteered in a surgical education for kids and shadowed over 100 hours with several different specialties. I had a couple other minor things as well. I did take the MCAT a couple months before the 38 and got a 32, but I applied the last cycle with both as well. As for the school list I applied to these schools.

Meh, I don't want to tell you to "relax" or anything because I know its your future we're talking about, BUT I do think one of those 5 interviews will pan out for you.

How many interviews did you have for your first application?

I only had 1, but I applied really poorly my first time. I was late and only applied to 14 schools with a lot of poor choices included. Haha ya I am trying to relax. The hard part is that I need to start getting ready for next cycle if I don't get in. Which is why the MCAT question comes up.

Yeah, I know. Easier said than done, for sure! If I were you, I'd start dipping my toes into the MCAT pool and climb incrementally in, just to be safe. I'd put money on it that you'll get into at least a couple of those schools. But on the very off chance that you don't, at least you'll be in good shape for a retake.

I wouldn't get serious about retaking it until the first week of May- that "movement" day they talk about is on April 30th this year. If you don't get good news that following week, you might have to retake.

I may have missed it, but were all 5 post-interview decisions waitlists or are you waiting on any decisions?

Thanks I hope you are right! As for the interviews, 2 are waitlists so far, 1 I hear back from in the next week, 1 is a texas school where they told me not to expect anything before April and the last one has been radio silence. I interviewed between August and December, so it has been a little while now. But the advice sounds good. I guess Ill just hit the gym a lot in the meantime to try and distract myself.
