I'm a very untraditional aspiring medical student. I'm 35, and I haven't been to college since '00. I graduated from a BS program in Biological Engineering in '97, and a MS in Biomedical Engineering in '00.

One person whom I spoke with today said to me that I may have to retake these courses, because these courses are only good for a few years. Is this true or not? I plan on attending either a US Based school or a Caribbean based program.

I'm assuming you have all the pre-reqs? If so, you do not need to re-take. If you can do well on the MCAT most schools accept the pre-reqs from whenever you took them (there are a few exception so look carefully on the websites of school you are interested in... normally those schools have a 10 yr acceptance policy... but they are few and far between).

Make sure to consider D.O. long before you consider the Caribbean.

You'll find that very few schools explicitly state a prereqs expiration policy. UMass is one that says 6 years.

Regardless you need some fresh grades to show that your brain cells still fire. Take a few upper division undergrad science classes. Kill the MCAT. Make it really easy for adcoms to see that they have nothing to worry about with you.

Best of luck to you.

Good luck and avoid the Caribbean.
