Hi! I'm new to this forum, but so far, I see that everyone is really wonderful and helpful. I've undergone some rough patches and have not done so well academically this past year.
I know that no one knows anything for sure, but I was wondering if you guys think I stand a chance at getting in ANYWHERE (and if there is anywhere in particular I should apply)?

I went to a community college for 2 years - got a 3.22 GPA. Then, I went to my current college, went on academic probation. Then, I went to another 4-year university, got my grades back up, and now, I'm back at the other college, and overall GPA is now a 2.0. I have worked at a pharmacy for 4 years, so I have a ton of experience. I have always worked more than 15 hours a week. I have done a couple of clubs when I was at my current college. I also have a small home-run business, so I guess that can go on my application as well.

Overall, my Science grades are all pretty weak, Math & Physics are okay, and others are pretty good/okay too. I am taking the August PCAT, so obviously I'm aiming for 80(+)%. Do you think that is good enough, or should I am for even higher?

I will be getting at least two LORs from pharmacists, but I don't know if I really have any science professors I can ask for one. Could I get one from a nonscience professor, do you think?

What is your honest opinion? As one intern friend pointed out yesterday, I could apply everywhere this year. Even if a single place does not accept me, they might tell me what specifically to improve on, and then, I might have a real chance. What do you say?

you can apply everywhere...but do you have that much money? they can possibly point out what you need to improve on, but looking at your experience, id say you have a good idea of how a pharmacy is run. i would emphasize this in your personal statement. with a strong personal statement, lors, and a good pcat score (the number you aimed is good), i think you have a good chance~ if you apply, make it worth something and try your best! i wouldnt want to apply to all of them and get rejected to find out what i need to improve on hah....good luck! ask if you need help~

I hate to break this to you but I think the minimum GPA has to be at least 2.5 to 3.0 depending on the school. I think some people mentioned schools that did grade replacement? I'm not entirely sure about that.

But if you want to become a pharmacist, don't give up!

I'm confused with your original post. What is your overall GPA combining ALL transcripts? We don't know how many credits you've taken, so we can't help you by seeing 3.2 and 2.0. Do you mean that your overall is now 2.0? That would be a major problem as I don't think there are any schools with minimum below 2.5. How many total units have you taken? It might not be the end if you can bring it up, especially if you can work on a B.S. degree. But I wouldn't waste money applying this year as you don't meet the minimum requirement if your overall GPA (all transcripts) is 2.0.

sorry but 2.0 is way too low, even if you scored 99 on the PCAT and got 4 pharmacist to write you a letter no school will take you because you don't pass their bare minm for 2.5.

i guess i was a bit confused on your post...but yes...like everyone said...min is 2.5..........=(

yes! 2.0 is definitely too low to apply...

These post are accurate with the assumption that all schools review all classes. For a example University of Fl views only their specific prereq. with the others being irrelevant(available for verification on web-site). Some schools do a science calculation using their definition of "Science classes". Some schools view everything as far back as the SAT. Programs target different students based on many factors, so no one generalization universally applies. Finally, new currently in the process of accreditation schools are extremely flexible in their admissions policies, so what is published is not necessarily what occurs(there are always exceptions). Your situation means that you have to do your research. The school websites in the prospective student section would be a good start. Pharmcas is not cheap, so designating any school without reviewing their program website is reckless. Do not shoot for an 80%, which is arbitrary. Shoot for the highest score that you can get and prepare as if your career depended on it. FYI- PCAT score 94%, college GPA 3.74, Accepted into state medical school(3.6 years completed prior to spinal tumor...), accepted into UGA and UTmemphis( medically deferred until 09). Have friends that have your GPA and your desired PCAT scores. While at UGA college of pharmacy, I referred to them as classmates. If anyone tells you that you have no shot this year, their name should be followed by pharmD, Registered pharmacist and more importantly dean or associate dean of University "X" college of Pharmacy. Anyone else is guessing, and basing a career decision primarily on the recommendation of a pre-pharm, pre-med or pre-whatever is again reckless. Sorry about preaching good luck!

2.0 and academic probation are VERY BAD SIGNS. With those kinda numbers I'm curious as to how you plan on scoring 80%+ on the PCAT. This really sounds like a joke, but if its not, don't worry.

- 4yrs pharm tech really doesnt mean THAT much, b/c there are plenty of ppl who get and got in w/o experience.

- I retook almost ALL science pre-reqs 4, really, 4 times and finally got in by making all A's in bio 1&2, chem 1&2 at community college. Retook PCAT 3-4 times also. Check my posts and read them, I finally got in with great persistence and dedication and lots of community service.

-Read my posts, its definetly doable and never give up if its what u really want.
