Hi everyone,

So I am currently a junior pre-med. Long story short I failed three classes last semester and now am on track to fail (or receive a D) in two of the retakes. GPA was good before this (3.9). This is due to various reasons, family issues mainly. I support myself so I am working two jobs while balancing school full time. I know that's not an excuse. Basically I'm feeling like I don't have a shot anymore. If i retake again and 4.0 the retakes as well as the rest of my classes, do i still have a shot? Also I have not taken the MCAT yet.

First, yes you still have a chance if you retake those courses. That's what grade replacement is for. Secondly, you need to stop failing stuff (duh). I would take a look at maybe utilizing loans. I know it can be nice to support yourself and be independent (worked full time my freshmen year so I totally get it) but that isn't very conducive to getting good grades. If your family issues are a big enough distraction then also maybe thing about taking a semester off to regroup. And as always, rock the MCAT (this advice applies to everyone though honestly)

@AnatomyGrey12 is right OP, but I want to stress the "semester off" part. I hit a rough patch awhile ago, and took an entire year to get my shiz together. I returned as a beast in my classes! That break does something to ya. If you can GUARANTEE yourself success than don't take that break, but if you have any doubt at all!!!! Take a spring and summer break. "I" think it shows maturity to know your limits.

+1

I would especially take @AnatomyGrey12 's advice about taking time off of work when you are studying for the MCAT. Don't mess around with that beast, do it right the first time so you don't have to pay to take it again (both financially and psychologically.)

As someone who plowed through classes because of pre-med neuroticism and kept getting **** grades instead of taking the time off to get my life together/address what I was doing wrong, I highly concur. Make it easier on yourself, it's not a race.

Yes, but you need to start making better choices.
