Greetings, 🙂

I just transferred out of community college where I did not do too well, I transferred with a 3.1. I was working almost 30-35 hours a week to help my family financially, while taking about 14-16 credit hours a semester. 🙂() I am a Texas resident and transferred to UT this past semester where I working towards a BS in Biology. I need to know is it wise to continue to pursue a career in medicine? I have about 40 hours volunteering at a homeless clinic. I know when it comes time to apply I would have to send the transcript from my community college as well which I am terrified of. I have about 2.5 years left.... what should I doooooo? Please helpppppp,

P.S. I don't mind whether it is a DO or MD school.

Thank you in advance.

Work harder in school and get GPA up. If get your GPA up a little bit and score above 30 on MCAT you have a great shot at DO schools and slight shot at MD. Honestly, if you can pull off straight A's or just about straight A's then you will be fine. They see upward grade trends as a very positive thing. You overcame immaturity basically. You also had to work 30+ hours a week which they will consider. The job is not an excuse for the bad grades though as there are many applicants who were probably in the same situation.

You need way more clinical experience. Clinical means working directly with patients. Do that + shadowing + research over next 2.5 years. Since you will be at UT I am sure you will be able to find a professor or meet a contact through a professor to do some research.

I forgot to mention that I wont be working while I'm in the university which will help tremendously! Thank you much for the advise!
