DO in NYC area

Anyone? Thanks!

Hey, I'm a DO and have gotten interviews at SUNY in Brooklyn, and just got one from Beth Israel Medical Center - Albert Einstein.. I took the USMLE though. I'd highly recommend doing that if you want to apply for an MD residency. I've heard there might be some schools that will accept just the COMLEX, but I think they want something that assesses you relative to MD students. Just my two cents. Hope it helps!

Well, I think the ship has sailed for Step 1, so I'm going to take step 2. You don't know though if it was required for those programs? But, it's good to know they at least inter view DOs.

Your best bet is to contact the schools themselves. I know, you've probably heard that before and it doesn't really help, but it is the best way to go. I'd go to the AAMC website (or ERAS), and get the email addresses of all the programs, then send out a mass email asking them your question. Just head it 'to whom it may concern'. They won't look down on you for asking, and if they do, you probably don't want to go there anyway, right? You might want to do a NBME step 1 practice exam just to see how you'd score. Who knows, you might be better than you think! 😉

I actually have, but most of my responses were from schools outside of NYC. I'm going to double check my contact info. Maybe it's not updated enough and I'm really writing no one. I'm definitely going to take step 2. If I can get good clinical grades and recs, I can't imagine the process will be a total bust.

I think Step 2 for COMLEX and USMLE are alot more similar than they were for Step 1, so you won't have to restudy a whole new exam to do well....if you really want to do it, go for it! I'm sure you realize by now half of medicine is pure desire and willpower...

That's true. Good thing I'm a stubborn pain the ass! I'm going to go for it. Why not? Thanks!
