I am a third year medical student interested in internal medicine and either doing a subspecialty or being a hospitalist. I realize that the allopathic institutions, especially university hospitals, are much more respected training programs than the osteopathic programs. However, I am uncertain which allopathic programs are 'DO friendly' and will accept COMLEX scores. Also, how difficult is it to get a spot in a reasonable IM MD program while being a slightly above average DO student? Can anyone out there help me? Also I am interested in which osteopathic internal medicine programs are well respected. I know that there are some good programs in Michigan (Botsford, POH, and a few others), but what about the programs in Florida and Texas? Does anyone know anything about Suncoast hospital in Tampa or the hospitals in Fort Worth, Tx? Thanks.
