Do med schools and AMCAS consider GPAs from both community college and university?

Y'all got any more of them acceptance letters?

I figured I'd go into better detail with my circumstances. I did a year at a community college before transferring to a university. I had a 3.8 when I transferred but all students start with a fresh GPA like anyone else, so I'm curious if all of those courses will be accounted into my GPA as well? They were used as credit towards classes in my degree. All of my english courses, history, a bunch of math classes, etc. I'm sure this has been answered before but I wanted to write it so the response would be catered towards my circumstances. Thanks

Yes, all college credits go towards your GPA calculation in AMCAS (even for lucky folks like me who did dual credit taking community college courses as a high school student). You'll send transcripts from both schools.

That's good to know. I figured that was the case, but didn't know how they did it. Thanks for your response!

Really - LOL. Oops! I didn't include the university credits from my high school years. But there was a good 12-or-so year lag there! 🙂

yeah, really. which is great because back in 2000-2001 during my senior year in hs med school was the furthest thing from my mind.

Well, for a long time I had considered PA school because of my age (27, 30 at applying time) but I had some inspirational talks with some people and it made it clear for me that I should just do it and not live with the what if. I'm going to be that age anyway. I might as well enjoy what I'm doing. I also think I'd hit a ceiling and regret not going, so here I am.

No GPA as reported on a transcript is factored into med school admissions GPA calculations. AMCAS et al make you input the data course by course, transcript by transcript, and the the app service does its own calculations. This goes for classes/grades that your college "forgives" in a college GPA - your college doesn't get a vote on how coursework gets used or not used.

Also use caution in how you think about transfer coursework - in some cases it's good enough for college A work to be listed on college B transcript, sometimes not. The course classification info in the app instructions is required reading - 3-4 pages out of the 150+ page instructions.

Well, that is good to know. I am two years (atleast) from applying so that'll give me some time to read up on it. Is there a way I could make a trial run of what my GPA would look like? Also, I never took the SAT or ACT... I got my GED and went to a CC at 23. Is that going to be an issue? I only dropped out because my dad was dying and I took that time to spend with him and help him. Also, making a good school list. There are so many and I guess the answer might be obvious (take a lot of time to just research each school) or is there another way I could go about it? I have MSAR but I have all of my science pre-reqs yet to be done, so GPA wise I don't know where I stand, and have no clue what I'd do on the MCAT. I will be applying to my state schools, for sure.
