Do med schools care about what you're doing during the year of your application?

Meaning, if youre in clubs or something, would they care about any positions youre holding for the upcoming year or anything youre getting involved with? would it be wise to include this stuff in your app, such as "oh Im going to be taking on such and such position next year, which includes blah blah blah responsibilities..."?

they care. i was asked in an interview what my plans were from then until graduation, and i got my only acceptance like two weeks after sending an update explaining two new extra-curricular activities i had just started.

I always feel like when they ask this question, they are expecting you to add new volunteering and such but what if you cant? Or at least cant add much more then maybe one activitiy. I can only volunteer now due to my large financial aid package, once i graduate that is gone and I will have to work 2 jobs just to keep me and my son afloat most likely. 2 jobs + son doesnt exactly leave a lot of outside time to do much. Would that be understandable or would they really just not care...at most i guess i could add one activity but i certainly wouldnt enjoy it.

Absolutely...more than half of my secondaries asked this question.

i sincerely hope that saying you're working two jobs and supporting a son would be a satisfactory answer to any interviewer or secondary question about what you're doing. if not, well... i'm losing faith in humanity.

lol me too but ive already lost faith in humanity...this process of applying and getting in seems so cutthroat that i feel humanity and other experiences dont matter as we are all just a number based on our gpa, mcat, and ecs.

I strongly suggest you go into this process assuming that med schools have an opinion about EVERYTHING. Got a B in p-chem? WHY?! HOW?! If this was followed by an A- WHY?! HOW?! What did you do your first summer out of college? You were away on vacation?! SERIOUSLY?! WHILE SICK PEOPLE NEEDED YOUR HELP?? How about the next summer? No lab work?!! WHO'S GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE GELS!!! Your GPA is high but your MCAT is low? Your undergrad sucks. Your MCAT is high but your GPA is low? You have no discipline. Both are high? You had no life. You spent a year doing some intense research and got published 8 times but haven't volunteered at a hospital bringing cups of water to patients? You don't care about patients.

And so on, and so forth...
