Do medical schools give hints that you did well after interviewing?

So far I've gotten communication from two non-rolling schools after interviews that seems promising. Student representatives reached out to me about a week after each interview just to say hi and answer whatever questions I might have, and the dean of one sent me a letter promising that I'd get "strong consideration" when the adcom meets and advising me to send an update in February.

It seems like a waste of time (and kinda sadistic 😕) to send messages like this after an interview to people who aren't strong contenders. Of all my interviews so far these are my favorites, and it would make sense for the March notifiers to informally communicate with strong early interviewees, so I'm super excited, but also wary of wishful thinking.

Also, I haven't gotten communication from the other 12 places I've gone to so far, so did I do less well at them?

I've read somewhere on here that AdCom members are specifically instructed not to give any clues (good or bad) to the interviewees. I also experienced that during my interview where I really couldn't tell if the interviewer liked me or not. I got accepted there so I guess that they liked me after all.

Anyways, the interview evaluation is only part of your overall "Holistic" evaluation. So even if the interviewer liked you, he can't really accept you.

Usually not. But one interviewer I had straight-up told me that I would get in at the end of our interview. It really depends though, at the med school I ended up at I had absolutely no idea how I did - honestly I thought it went bad haha

I'm getting the sense that the students were being more than polite. They didn't have to reach out, but best to inquire in the school specific threads and ask current students if they indeed reach out like they did to you.

The dean's letter also seems to be a bit beyond the standard boilerplate. My gut senses that they're very subtly signaling that they want you.

Do let us know if I'm right!

Why do you assume I'm not genuinely anxious about an expensive, drawn-out, and non-transparent process?

Re-read your post and give it some thought. I was part trying to bring some levity to the situation while also pointing out that you were indeed low-key gloating.

You should not be ashamed of your 14 interviews, but to be hyper-analyzing the social cues knowing full well that you have a significantly high probability of matriculating is somewhat off-putting. That’s just me though.

Maybe it’s I had just read about all the folks that haven’t had any interviews, no II’s, etc. By the way, that’s not to lessen your accomplishments at all, but know your audience—those on WHT reading your posts on the public forum that it is.

Enjoy the ride. God speed.

Didn't mean to sound so defensive. But no matter how good my odds are, I'm going to swallow the expense and go to every single II I get. Also, I just got a WL from a school that I thought was a fairly safe bet, so I'm feeling antsy right now.

The letter from the dean regarding 'strong consideration' is likely from Columbia - don't read into that one. Almost everyone gets a dean's letter if they send a thank-you note. And even if they don't get a letter, the wonderful people on this website found no correlation between letter and acceptance. And technically, you had 'strong consideration' the moment you were invited to interview. Don't look into anything, and just wait for your time to come.

One person was like super clear (read: insulting) they felt I was too old for med school.
Yikes. Why would they have someone like that interview you?! If you feel comfortable PMing me with the name of the school, I'd be grateful to know which one to avoid.

I filled out a survey about that interviewer and the dean of admissions called me this morning. My assumption is to apologize.

Generally expecting a 0 percent discrimination rate is unrealistic. Solution is to apply broadly, not go free inhabitant
Yeah, agree - age discrimination has been pretty blatant in my experience so far. I'm just surprised that they'd assign someone so... impolitic to your interview slot. Kudos to the dean if he or she is indeed calling to apologize.

Meh whatever, reality is many don't look favorably on nontrads. It's not going to change anytime soon.

I am just worried it's gonna be the same thing come time for residency. It's about to get more competitive on that front, and not placing after 4 years and a half mil is a complete crisis.

I've got 2 more of these, I'm hoping they are more professional.
I know what you mean about residency. I'm not opposed to going into industry, myself - at least those opportunities are increasing.
Break a leg on your other interviews!
