Do most M2's study for boards along with classes?

I always assumed that I would be fine if I just focus on my classes and worry about that during the summer. However after reading Sdn I am having some second thoughts. How important is it to study for boards during school and how many hours per week are you guys able to devote? Is there anyone out there who did well on step 1 (240 or higher) and didnt start studying until the start of the summer?

I didn't start until after classes ended and did well. Our end of year exams were all nbme shelf's, though.

At some point midway through m2 year I also started annotating FA with class-notes, if you want to consider that step studying. But that is as much as I was willing to put in.
