I've heard conflicting things on this -- some people have told me that by definition consciously sedated people are supposed to be able to follow verbal commands; others say no.

What say you?

I don't really use the term "conscious sedation" but under light sedation, then the patient should be able to follow commands. If they're unresponsive, it's a general anesthetic.

That's why it's called "conscious" sedation.

I have always found that the nurses are the ones to confuse this, issue.
