I am applying to general psychiatry residencies, but have the ultimate goal to dedicate 50% of my work towards Forensics after (hopefully) a forensics fellowship. Should I admit to my future plans of fellowship? Do PD's want to hear that you are sticking to general clinical practice?

Write about whatever you're passionate about - if it's forensics, that's fine.

IMHO it does give a very slight edge to show that you're interested in a fellowship--because it shows you are driven & determined & know what you want. If you want to go into child, some programs love this because this can get that person out at the end of year 3, and its the first 2 years where residents give the scutwork that programs want them to give. In a lot of programs, PGY-IV are "dead weight" & don't do much if any scutwork for a program because PGY-IV's choose to do electives with no scutwork.

Go ahead and inform the program of your interests as it helps the program understand you as a person. I am not as much interested in what you want to do as have you thought about it and come to a reasonable conclusion.
