Hey everyone,

Quick question: When Iw as reviewing for Step 1, I read a different subject book for each subject (BRS biochem, BRS Phys, RR Path, etc).

Do people do the same thing for step 2?

I used blueprints for my OB rotation, and figure I could read again prior to step 2, but for surgery (my next rotation) I wanted to use lawrence.. there's no way I could cover that entire book prior to taking step 2...

Any and all advice appreciated.

The only subject review book I used was Step Up Medicine. I HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest it. Since IM is probably the most heavily-tested subject on the test, it's definitely a high-yield read. Plus, the book gives only the most pertinent info. As I was going through UW questions, I made notes in the margins on questions I got wrong or was unsure of, and this helped me out a lot.

I wouldn't recommend First Aid for Step 2, as it seemed a little too superficial for me personally. Some folks might disagree. The book was 80% medicine, which I thought was much better covered by Step Up.

Good luck!

Premier Review is great for medicine also. I agree that first aid is skimpy somewhat on certain topics. Other topics come verbatim from first aid.. its not a bad book ...
I have heard good things about step up also, I didnt use it personally..

focus on questions and find your week areas. then use focused reviews in those areas. most people just use FA and world but I agree that step-up to medicine is the single best review book for 3rd year and for step 2.

good luck

Blueprints Medicine is too simple. Step up is a much better book. You're not getting anything extra at all with blueprints medicine.

yeah if your exceptionally bright..
I would advise Kaplan notes for all subjects, Trauma especially.. First aid is great too...

If I bombed several of my shelf exams and still want to land a solid score, do you think Kaplan notes will suffice? My weak spots specifically are:

Internal Med, Ob-Gyn, and Surgery

Are the DVD video lectures redundant or think that'll be helpful as well? thanks folks.

im watching the step 2 videos now, gyno.......talk about boring. it is soooo slow. i dont think its worth it . any other opinions?
