Has anyone applied/has been succesful for DO/PhD programs? I do not hear much about them and was wondering what stats typically get in and if anyone had any info on them

There are 5 DO/PhD programs that offer biomedical based PhDs, MSUCOM, OUCOM, OSUCHS, and UNTHSC TCOM. When I was looking into doing a DO after my PhD I went through these schools science departments to see if I could find a practicing DO/PhD in a academic position. I primarily focused on MSU and did find two such persons, one primarily clinical but the other was participating in molecular biology research and working on the clinical side. I'll post the contact after I look it up again. I talked to both of them and they gave great advice. Primarily you are viewed the same and treated as such. Basically the PhD world sees your PhD and the clinical world your DO.

As for stats, the websites are pretty good for this info. If you have more questions thenI would try calling the program admissions office.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Life happened...anyway this is the link that you are looking for. I talked to this guy and he had some really good advice to give. He also provided a good perspective as to what his position is. He is practicing both medicine and science. His name is Dr. Amalfitano, DO, PhD.

Wow. This guy has the resume that I want in 15-20 years. Like... exactly.

It is hard to describe the feeling, because I was convinced that there were no DO/PhD's researching gene therapy. And here he is. Thank you for that... so much.

He is very receptive to talking with those who want to be practicing DO/PhDs with a foot in both science and medicine. I recommend you email him.
