If all do schools made it mandatory that all their students changed their car plate to do-etc, and have the sign "DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine)" on their rear window, with their schools' names on it, I think it would go a long way to promoting awareness of the profession. Also, they can have stickers on the back of their car truck with the DO logo (one snake on a staff with d.o on it). Or they could just have the sign on the back of their review view window.

Does anyone at a do school know if they sell this kind of stickers and signs at the school bookstore? They should cause it can allow students to be proud of their schools and also help promote to the profession to the public (even if it is not mandatory). You will see the parking lot filled with do cars. That would be really cool because it means dos are not "closet docs."

Is anyone of you going to doing this: change your license plate etc?

werent you the insecure guy that was hesitant on DO? what the hell has gotten into you.. dude's dont have mood swings...🙂

some dudes do have mood swings...LOL

but anyway, some schools do sell those stickers and some school clubs do this as well.

Glad to see your change of heart (from other posts) and while I do agree w/ the idea of promoting DO in theory, I generally regard the people who put "MD" on their license plates to be pretentious, arrogant, do**^&bags. That is not a shot whatsoever at the MD's, just simply stating my opinion on the few individuals who choose to this. Their is a reason that they are called "vanity" plates......

In any event, most of my class has "philadelphia college of osteopathic medicine" decals on their rear car windows, including myself. I don't think we do it to promote Osteopathic Medicine in general, but moreso for the same reason that college kids put their school name on the back window.

If you want to promote Osteopathic Medicine, come to one of our schools, learn how to be a great doc and treat your patients well. A satisfied patient is your best promotor in my opinion (though the opinion of an MSI on this doesn't really mean much..). When your patients, fellow residents, attendings, etc see that you know your $hit, and then potentially notice the DO on your nametag, that speaks louder then words/advertising IMO.

It's a good day today, because I just figured out that everything on SDN regarding pre-osteopathic/allopathic has officially been beaten into the ground. Thus, I can quit wasting my time reading the same damn post written by a different person day in and day out. I mean how many times can people seriously discuss D.O. vs. M.D. and the advantages/disadvantages of each degree, before they use their brain and realize it's been discussed Umpteen times before?!? I think I'll stick to my Class' official thread, and occasionally check threads relating to residency and 3rd/4th years.

If you want to become a doctor, become a doctor. If you are insecure about anything in your life, take a moment and determine for YOURSELF why it is you feel the way you do. Ultimately, YOU are the sole person who will decide your future success and happiness. Reading some of the posts on SDN actually kind of concerns me in regards to what kind of a doctor some people will become. I apologize in advance if I upset any of the sensitive types out there, but I must admit feeling much better now that this is off my chest. Confidence goes a long ways.....I think everyone should keep that in mind no matter what challenges in life they face.

Best of luck.

Go to VCOM half the cars in the lot have something about VCOM or DO on their license plate.

P.S. "dude's" do have mood swings, but I think this one is just messing with us, or is really bored

Don't bother with some of these harsh comments above. I think you will become a great DO someday and I'm glad to hear you're cheering for the profession. Best of luck to you and it's people like you that are needed in this field!

yes, mandatory bumper stickers is exactly what this profession needs.

EASTCOASTER.... maybe it's people like you we need??

YES!!! Maybe if I put "DO" on the back of my crappy car I will get the opthamology residency I want!!

It would come off kind of arrogant. Like, "ew, look at the hotshot doctor".

Exactly..I wouldn't put a DO or MD sticker on the back of my car...

It's like, "no, no...you can call me Zoom-Zoom...M.D."

If you're ever in a car accident you're more likely to get sued if they know you're a doctor.

No need to advertise it to them.

I think this thread keeps getting more and more morbid haha. Next will be about drive by shootings.

i think we should just get a paragraph tatooed on our foreheads describing what a DO is. Then we wouldnt have to say anything at all.

LOL! Sad but true!!

In NY the physician license plates all say "MD," so our professors that have DO degrees have MD plates

oh, and
one snake in a staff

are you referring to the staff of Aesculapius?

I doubt people recognise the difference between the single and double snake staffs.

All that the NY State DMV wants is a license that your a medical doctor and you get MD plates.
