Hey folks. I've been lurking on this forum for a while now. I am a physical therapist trying to get into medical school. I've only recently (within the last 4 months or so) discovered the option of going to an osteopathic medical school. I was reading some older posts and just wanted to make sure I understood something correctly. I'll try not to ask dumb questions, but this might be one.

There is an internship year requirement prior to beginning residency for osteopathic students? Is this similar to a preliminary year or totally different? If you want you can just provide a link and I'll take it from there. Thanks in advance.

yes.

Some MD residencies have a separate transition/prelim year and others incorporate it into the residency. But the Internship year in osteopathic medicine is separate (generally)

actually, many if not most DO internships are integrated with the residencies. In 2008, nearly all of them will be integrated. The ones that'll be separate are in the same kinds of specialties that have separate internships in the MD world.
