I've been looking around online & I was going to buy the DSMIV but I was wondering if its a common thing to get one through residency? I know there should be copies laying around to peruse thru but what about programs offering discounts & such??

thanks

hmm thanks. Maybe i'LL hold off on buying one just yet

Whoa! Is the pocket version 8 inches thick, or is the paper super thin? 🙂

Well, both. 😉 Well, not 8 inches, but it's thick. But it leaves out a lot of stuff that's in the full volume. It's really only the criteria and that's it. And the GAF scale is in there too.

If you haven't started yet, ask the program if there's any books they get on an organized basis.

Sometimes pharm reps get books for the residents. This depends on the relationship of the reps with the program.

Astra Zeneca has a program where their reps can get residents books. So do actually a lot of other pharmaceutical companies. While its nice, just remember, do not let that influence your clinical judgement in deciding which med to give.

The cheif resident seems to be the best person in establishing a relationship where books can be provided to residents.
