Just wondering if residents have a say in the rank list that the program puts in? Can they advocate for a candidate that they've worked with?

Thanks!

At my old shop . . . ultimately ranking was done by a committee, but if I thought a candidate showed a lot of interest or seemed cool I'd pass it along. Such information, I was told, can bump a guy up a "tier" in the ranking, from say low third to middle third for instance. One thing I know we could do was torpedo anyone. You say something stupid, or act like aweirdo, we'd let people who we think needed to know, know, and you wouldn't get ranked.

And this is the key. Residents may not be able to help you that much, but they can definitely nuke you.

No need to go around offering hummers on interview day but don't be a douchpickle either. The former is unlikely to get you much (other than bad breath), the latter will give you the opportunity to use the word "Venti" much more than you can imagine.

Same thing here. The residents can sink anyone's chances. And their input is taken very, very seriously.

Agreed. Behave appropriately. Don't be a douche bag. We are routinely asked for any appropriate feedback - positive and negative.

some places yes, some places not at all.

Where I trained residents had EQUAL weight with faculty. We interviewed applicants as did faculty. We attended the rank meeting with faculty. Resident impressions mattered a lot.
