...how many other schools you applied to?

I never want to list the whole laundry list when asked at an interview.

No, but they will in the end.

yes they do, at two of my interviews (Minnesota and Nova) the admissions coordinator knew that I applied to over 40 schools. (51 to be exact)

Oklahoma and UNE commented that it was a good move showing dedication and commitment to dentistry. Also seeing that they jotted down their evaluation notes.

For NOVA, you need to indicate how many schools you applied in their secondaries.

Holey moley. haha You must be broke! I had to borrow money to pay for ten. But, good for you. I would too if I could spend 8 grand on applications

Yea it was about 8k including supplemental fees. I don't want to think that I could've applied more during the cycle lol

Over multiple cycles, yes? If you clicked almost every single school on AADSAS this year, that's impressive and expensive.

I didn't realize they actually had a way of knowing until it's April and you are holding multiple spots. I always just say 10 or 11 but I never actually counted and it's 14 in reality. crazy.. oops. hope that doesn't hurt me.

Then why do they bother asking (if they already know)??

Can anyone cite something besides personal experience (though that's valued), maybe a policy from ADEA?

It could be a secret test of character. 😀

The admissions people may not be able to verify every EC you have, but they can have a measure of your personality by how willing you are to lie about trivial matter such as the number of schools you're applying to.

My prehealth advisor assured us several times that they dont know.

...but is it true? I want it to be, but the advisor might be wrong.

But what is your advisor is wrong?

In a situation like this, it's best to exercise the precaution principle. Honesty is the best policy.

That's true, but I would still like to know what actually happens, anyone else have info?

I was asked if I applied to _____ school pointblank. I said no, I hope it wasn't a test. If it was, at least I passed. lol

I was also asked if I applied to the other in state school. I told him no and he said "it's always suggested that every in state applicant apply to both." I said "Well, I want to be here and that school is also too far for me with children. I don't want to relocate and need my support system nearby to help with the kids." I don't know what he thought of that but I'm hoping at least it meant that he knew I'd be certain to choose that school no matter what...

agreed, test of character

So do we have proof?

Did they ever bring up the exact number at an interview w/o you disclosing it first (in a secondary or talking during the interview)?

read yo thread

Be nice.

Nova could have learned from your secondary and I took your comment about Ok and UNE to be commentary on the school's attitudes on how many you applied to; you didn't say they knew w/o you telling them.

Does Minnesota have a secondary where you might have given them this info?

OP They deffinitely know. LOL I was asked several test questions now thinking about it. Just be truthful. It makes the interview process much more enjoyable than getting entangled in a lie in front of your interviewers.

sensitivity is running rampant on this forum...

They weren't my comments in the first place, I quoted someone else from the thread.

Minnesota does not have this question in a secondary.

Minnesota's secondary doesn't ask this.

At Minnesota, the associate dean spitted out the range of schools we applied to and said "1 applicant applied to 50 schools". That's when I knew it was me lol.

edit: For some reason, I really think that question is a test of character and also to see how dedicated you are to being accepted.

And did you possibly tell someone in your interview group this, who then mentioned it in their interview....before you were up.

I don't have an explanation for Minnesota unless this happened there too.

[If anyone feels that I am belaboring this point, feel free to check out of this thread, but don't get prissy as me for wanting to get to the bottom of this question : ) ]

all of this was during the introduction BEFORE any interviews were conducted and I did not mention to anyone until AFTER my interview. I really dont know dude lol

i feel like a crminal now

Hahaha, why? Not my intention to make you feel like a criminal. Just trying to see if there are any holes in the logic that schools know the #.

Thanks for the info!

If anything, the ADEA is the criminal here taking your 4 G's to transfer your info to 51 schools. I still can't believe you could afford that! It is remarkable. Do you think you still would have done that if you got a 20 in RC? I think you have a good shot, you do have 51 tickets in the drawing per se.

7 schools are willing to overlook my 16 in RC and I feel so blessed and lucky as well

Woah, you applied to 51 schools...that's crazy! How did you choose the schools you applied to?

Would not disclosing all the schools when answering the question be enough grounds for an automatic rejection?

They do not know until later. (April/May)

There have been many threads on this.

I called AADSAS and asked. They said "Nope, no way they can know" (that's an exact quote).

I'm pretty sure they can see more than we are aware. When I was at one interview, they repeatedly asked me about Columbia, ("Why would you choose Columbia over us?") which was really weird because at that time, Columbia was the only other school showing up on the portal where I had an interview. So I am pretty sure they know and that's why some schools choose not to post anything on the portal at all.

I'm not sure if everyone is being paranoid or if there is actually something to it BUT I wanted to know and called AADSAS today. Actually surprised they are open since it's a federal holiday, or rather the Monday after. Anyways, had a 5 minute conversation with someone. I was told there is NO way AADSAS gives out that information both what schools and how many you applied to. Schools may only know later in the cycle when you are holding deposits at multiple programs. If you look at the center section (application checklist) and then click on your school designations and then "Application pdf" that is what each school receives.

I also RE-called this morning and the lady said "schools do SOMETIMES share information with each other. So, that is a way that other schools might know where else you have applied."

case = solved.

Wow team, thank you! I do feel like we've solved this one.
If schools know your other schools, or # of other schools, it's not directly from AADSAS (prior to April/May).

Ad coms might have a lil SDN of their own. Jeez....how creepy would that be..

Good to know. I would assume this happens. But it would be highly improbable they would know all the places or exact number because It would be quite the effort on their part to figure out all of each applicants designations.
