I know I've read the answer to this on SDN before but I couldn't find it I apologize. Does anyone know the details? I have heard that they only count the post bacc GPA in which case my blood pressure just went down a little.

No this is not true. When Osteopathic schools calculate your GPA they factor in undergrad, post bacc, and graduate together. If a class is repeated, the only the grade of the second attempt is factored in and the first grade is ignored.

So it's the same deal as allopathic minus the repeated course issue? I know allopathic wont ignore a bad grade that was repeated....that's weird I could have sworn I read differently...oh well...thank you

Not exactly, Allopathic schools do not factor graduate GPA into the actual GPA calculation, although it will be listed on your application. Repeated courses are averaged for Allopathic schools.

To clarify what Sundarban1 said, allopathic schools will see your undergrad GPA, your post-bacc GPA, and if applicable, your graduate GPA. ALL classes are counted as he said, including all repeats.

Allopathic schools look at the CUMULATIVE undergrad GPA (undergrad + post-bacc GPA), however they are able to discern between undergrad and post-bacc. Grad GPA is counted seperately in the eyes of allopathic schools. Using a real world example...namely me...

My undergrad GPA was 2.65. My initial post-bacc GPA was like 3.65. My graduate GPA is 4.0. Therefore, what most schools will look at more heavily would be the GPA derived from both my combined undergrad and post-bacc work, which was a 2.7. They DO NOT focus ONLY on the 3.65 GPA from post-bacc. Now if I applied to DO schools, the GPA would look at would be be like a 3.01 or something like that due to graduate school.

Ok, in case this applies to you, there is a caveat to all this, at least for me. My graduate GPA included upper division undergrad classes as well, in addition to the grad/med level courses. These undergrad classes ALSO count as post-bacc, even though I took them as a graduate student. So in reality, as of today, allopathic schools would see a 2.77 GPA, and by years end or at least by the time i graduate, they should see a 3.0+ GPA thanks to me taking more undergrad classes while being in grad school. However this is not recommended.
