So I had a few misdemeanors I was not aware of, when I get an email from school after giving my background check that I did not report those misdemeanors on my primary/secondary. What should I do? Should I let the shools know? How harshly would they judge this if I honestly didn't know? I'm freaking out a bit

What kind of midemeanors that you 'didn't know about' are you speaking of? Like speeding tickets you didnt know were misdemeanors? Or something more serious?

Either way you need to let the school know. Not saying anything will without a doubt get your rescinded.

ya minor traffic violations, they specifically asked why i didnt report them

Respond honestly and openly, explain the individual situations and really just admit that you had no idea they were misdemeanors, you would have reported them if you did, and apologize profusely. That's pretty much all you can do.

Yep, that is all you can do.

There has been quite a few occasions on here lately where this has happened with traffic violations.

The tinted windows violation still cracks me up.

To the OP: Yeah man, don't worry at all, you don't want to go to a school anyways that eliminates you based on a traffic violation that you came clean on.

did you not review the background report before you released it to the schools?

Yeah, traffic tickets are pretty tricky as far as background checks go. Some types of traffic violations are misdemeanors and some are not...and they differ depending on the state. I think those reasons alone are enough that a school should believe you made an honest mistake about not knowing that they were misdemeanors. Just be honest and let them know that now that you are aware they are misdemeanors you are more than willing to give them any information about those violations that they believe they need. Unless you killed someone while driving drunk I doubt they would care.

it's not like you were selling crack to small children and "didn't know" you needed to report your record.

It's traffic stuff. Assuming you apologize and say that you honestly didn't know, I don't think they'll take back your acceptance.
