I am a DO student but crying for a surprising low 30% percentile on COMLEX 1 and avg 70% usmle 1, what to do to get into anesth residency, or out of reach? i have been crying in my rotation ever since i got the score....heart broken....MDD for sure...

Dude 70th percentile is not average.....Chillax. You could always just shoot for an MD residency and then they could care less about your comlex score.

That's about 34th percentile for COMLEX and 32nd percentile for USMLE.

True. I also don't think you'll have a tough time finding an anesthesia residency with those stats (MD or DO). I know of maybe 2 or 3 programs (MD) off-hand that will interview candidates with a 200 USMLE. Apply widely and broadly. You may not have a say in what state you end up, though, since you'll have to apply to broadly.

Provided your 3rd grades are good and you get some great letters, I think you've got a good shot. Keep your head up! Keep working hard and you can reach those goals, just don't give up now.

You definitely need to take both Step II's before applying. My advice would be to aim to crush both of those on top of doing amazing in your audition rotations and getting SUPERB rec letters. IMO your Step 1 scores aren't going to help you at all, so you need to focus on making a large improvement in Step II. Maybe talk to a couple residency directors for some programs and hear their feedback and advice.

Were you scoring what you needed to on your COMSAEs and NBMEs? If not, when you take Step II, make sure you are before you take the exam. If you were, maybe it was anxiety during the actual exams...not really sure how to get over that.

Argh, typical douchey SDN response. There are a LOT of anesthesiology programs out there, and the average USMLE score for matching is the average, not the minimum. I know a guy in ortho who scored in the 210's, for example.

Do a quick look through the OPs post history and you'll see a usmle of 205 or 215 and complex of 477 or 590. Plus he states 8 months ago he was an ms1. Waste of time

OP is also a DO student. Not saying anything bad about DO, but you gotta factor in whatever bias any residencies may have. Combined with a score that's pretty far below (10 points is big) the anesth avg, I think OP will have a tough time getting in anywhere that's not Nebraska. Sorry dude(tte)
