Can someone please inform me whether DO students finishing their first year- can transfer to MD school's? I heard this is possible due to the drop out rates at MD schools. Is this common?
The attrition rate from US med schools is very low. From what I have read there are rarely transfers from Osteopathic to Allopathic med schools, less than a dozen in the US last year.
Personally, I don't know of any schools that accept osteopathic students on a transfer basis. I've seen 1st year allopathic students who had previously completed a year of osteopathic. Generally though, allopathic institutions do not recognize the education as equivalent.
sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. But, I was curious why you want to switch. I'm still on the fence between DO and MD. Is there something I should know?
nez, DO schools are alot more expensive than allopathic state schools by as much as 100,000. DO's also have a harder time acquiring residency in some specialties traditionally restricted to MD's.
