Does anyone know the difference in MD vs Do residencies? I read at DO schools you have to do a 1 year internship after graduation before residency. In allopathic schools do you just have to go straight to residency? Does it take more time because of the internship if you go the DO route? Thanks

There is a lot of info on this. I would do a search first then post again if you have more specific questions.

If you are doing a DO residency you have to do a DO internship year. If you are doing an MD residency you don't have to do the DO internship year unless you want to practice in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, or Oklahoma (I believe those are the five). Many times, in certain specialties, the DO internship year can count as the first year of your residency so that it will not add an extra year to your total PGE.

I've heard the same!

Just like to add that if your in one of those famous five states and your in a allopathic residency that you can challenge the transitional year. Of course there is more info on the AOA site. 🙂
