A story about DO vs. MD...

My pops (an MD) works at an urgent care center. One of the docs he works with is an DO. The hospital made up some lab coats for all the docs that say "Dr. John Smith MD/DO, Blah Blah Health Systems."
Well, this DO's coats came back and said "John Smith, MD." As my pops said, "let's just say Dr. Smith is in no hurry to have the mistake corrected."

Bottom line: DOs are still physicians, but you should get an MD if at all possible.
