In MMI stations, if you have answered the prompt and there is time left but the interviewer does not have any follow up questions, or maybe you have already addressed their follow up questions already and there is still time left, should you sit there in silence? Should you ask them questions about the medical school or something? I don't want to come off as rude and uninterested if i just sit there in silence, but I also don't want to ask them questions or keep talking if that is looked down upon.
I have seen mixed opinions about this online so would love to hear from a few people if possible
Please help! thanks

I honestly have heard mixed things too. I also don’t think it’s rude or bad to ask prior to MMI or to the actual interviewer. In my MMI session, there was 5 mins before where we asked questions about the format such as taking notes, is there a timer etc. Also some interviewers are very specific and will tell u no. I had one say let’s wait the full two minutes before we start. If you’re unsure you can always ask. However, in all my MMIs they asked follow up questions

Typical MMIs will have 3 followups planned.

Questions you can ask may pertain to your understanding of the prompt before you begin your answer.

"Traditional stations" should be treated like a brief conversation, but you may not have enough time to get your questions answered.

"Teamwork stations": no except to clarify the task.

Programs can deviate as they wish.

This sometimes happens. They'll usually ask if you have any questions for them. If you're sitting in silence and they don't speak up and you have a lot of time left I would ask if I can ask questions. Most of the time their follow up questions will take the whole 8-10 mins tho
