DO with high USMLE

Since osteopathic medical students have the option of taking the USMLE, I was wondering just how much of an advantage an MD student had over a DO student, both with equal (and very high) USMLE scores, and all other factors being equal as well, for a residency in opthamology

For what it's worth, I was at LSU Health and Science Center (An Allopathic Residency) about a month ago and spoke to a D.O. Neurosurgery Resident that graduated from LECOM. From what I understand, he aced the USMLE. Neurosurgery is competative everywhere, even for MDs. This story is not just hear say. I actually spoke to this guy. It can happen.

I am family friends with the char of neurosurgery at both UWisconsin and UCincinnati. Prior to this most recent match, the person that UCincy wanted the most was a DO.
