do you ever meet up with other classmates during 3rd and 4th years?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

that is my question. does your school gather you all around and give you some more lectures, etc?

Match day.

That is the only day that you meet all your classmates again?

is that the same for all other med. schools?

duke instituted (this year is the first time) their "capstone" course, which is required for all grauating med students. it is a classroom experience, and takes place about a month prior to graduation, which basically screws everyone in the ass and makes them return to the school when they otherwise might have gotten some time to relax before graduation. the faculty apparently know nothing about what they are going to teach, and it's like a funny joke to them that this is the case. meanwhile, the students are angry as hell at being screwed around over it.

So you might never see some of your classmates after 2nd year until match day? That is kind of sad.

We have "Physician and Society" all four years. I don't know if I would be sad though if I didn't have to see some of my classmates until match day. Now that I think about it, that might be kinda nice.

During third year, most of the class gathers back again during shelf exams, which are admininstered all together in an auditorium. In fourth year, we have two weekend-long ethics conferences that the entire class is required to attend.

You keep in touch with people you really want to see anyway. And there's always people you're glad you don't have to see on a daily basis.

so basically, after two years, most med. schools don't require their students come back for more classes, only those big ones that do?

I don't think it's sad... it's actually kind of nice. You're bound to be sick of some people by the end of 2 years of school. The clinical years gives you a chance to get away from those people (hopefully). I had no trouble spending lots of time with my friends. We do have lectures as part of almost every clerkship, so you see the others on the clerkship with you at lecture. And, people do throw parties, etc, where you're bound to run into some folks that maybe you haven't seen in a while.

At my school they have what is called the 10th block course at the end of 4th year when everyone comes back together for a lecture series about many assorted topics from debt management to survival tips for internship. This is what I've heard anyway, I'm just a lowly M2 myself.
