I had a recent discussion with an anesthesiologist involved in litigation / malpractice lawsuits who shared with me he always calls his patients that received a single-shot peripheral nerve block daily until their block resolves. Which typically is just a single phone call after the first day.
Is this a typical way to practice? I admittedly never call patients or follow-up after a single shot block, unless there was something specific with the patient that needed follow-up. We always have our OB anesthesiologist of the day call patients and see inpatient catheters.
I'm just trying to figure out if I need to change what I do particularly in regards to single-shot blocks :-|
