I was wondering if you are required to release your USMLE scores to residency programs (allopathic) if you have taken them? If you were to take the COMLEX and the USMLE but didn't do very well on the USMLE, could you just not submit the USMLE scores to your program (assuming that the allopathic program does accept COMLEX scores in lieu of USMLE)???

I'm not too sure of this but I haven't heard of allopathic residency programs accepting the COMLEX. Otherwise, why would people even take the USMLE if they're coming from osteopathic schools? That being said, I'm at an allopathic school and we don't have any option to omit our scores for any reason (if you failed the first time for example), so I would imagine that it will be reported. Of course, this is just speculation so someone else may want to clarify this.

Then you haven't heard much. Many allopathic programs take the COMLEX.

DO students take the USMLE because some of the more competitive allopathic residencies prefer the USMLE for standardization purposes.

All the programs I'm thinking of take the COMLEX, but some would like to see USMLE if you have them because they aren't sure how to compare COMLEX scores with USMLE.

only take it if you are gonna do well (ie around or above the mean)......take NBME form 2 or 3 to see where you stand......taking it and doing poorly is worse then not having taken it at all.....I can't seem to find a straight answer on whether you have report it or not.....so just take care of the issue on your own and be prepared to kick its ass or not take it at all
