I know you have to pass all the exams before you submit your ROL but what if you haven't graduated at that point? Isn't that part of the ECFMG certification (medical school diploma)?

From reading numerous posts, it's very obvious that there is a way to graduate in May and start residency in July. BUt how exactly does that work with the ECFMG certification.

Thanks.

OK, if you are still a student and expecting to graduate that spring, you should not have a problem and do not need to have the ECFMG certificate in hand to input your ROL and take part in the Match.

To my understanding, though, you need to fulfill all the other requirement to become ECFMG certified short of your medical school diploma, that is you have to have Step 1 & 2, TOEFL, and CSA all squared away, prior to being able to participate in the Match. For example, if you failed the CSA, you would be dropped by the NRMP.

The NRMP addresses this very question in their materials

www.nrmp.org/res_match/special_part/ind_app/faq.html

Quote:

Q: I am a foregn medical grad. If I have not received my ECFMG certification before the ROL deadline can I still enter my ROL?

A: yes, you can. If NRMP receives notification from ECFMG that you have completed your exam requirements for certification by the ROL deadline, you will be included in the Match.

Thanks a lot, nychick.

I thought it had to be something like that.
