Whadya guys think? She's going to school in Boston this fall. She's never been there and doesn't know what to expect, but she's already planning on coming back to CA. Do you think things are gonna radically shift when she actually gets out there and starts school and the opportunities in the east coast start popping up?

She'd probably sit for the CA boards, pass, and maintain her CA license, but practice in CA? I forgot what her career goals were (the search function has been disabled)...if it's retail and clinical, the higher pay will be in CA thanks to their lack of licensing reciprocity with other states. If it's working for "big pharma", most of the companies are back east in NJ, PA, and IN.

Quite a few of the pharmacists I've seen out here, even one of the charge pharms at the hospital I work at, want to get to CA. He graduated from Georgia last year, and is already "boning up" for CA boards. He's an Atlanta native, yet he wants to end up in CA!

But maybe Boston will have some sort of "allure" for her, and she'll decide to stay...

funny triangulation....

tri totally thinks i'm gonna be converted to an east coaster.. there's no way. at least that's what i think now. it snows there... i don't think i'd be able to live in snow for the rest of my life. i love it here in cali. the weather is great... people are awesome... i'd like to come back here to practice. i'm not sure what my long term career goals are yet... i'd like to say clinical, but then i read some earlier postings about how its really rough and how you get no credit.. i'm hoping that going to school will open my eyes to my different opportunities..

i'm just scared of the boards...eek. how many tests exactly are there that you need to pass?

I requested a transfer to So Cal w/my DM and she's looking into it, so you've got a chance at working the summer and then transferring to Boston.

Just one test Keiki! One...very long...two day test.😉

Isn't it essay or something though? Someone told me that there's a very subjective essay portion and that it was hard to give a "correct" answer, depending on who was grading it.

Jd

Yeah, it's a two part exam, the first part is supposed to be short answer/essay (I think it's 100 pts), and the second part is multiple choice (I think that's 300 pts). I suppose the short answer/essay will have a bunch of scenario/case studies. Sounds quite subjective, hopefully they faithfully grade off of a rubric to "limit" the subjectivity.
