Hey everyone,
Hope you all had nice holiday seasons and are ready to jump back into the whole process again!
Question . . . do you think the lack of having a separate peds ER reflects negatively on a program? I found this to be the case at Stanford and Mayo . . . I really like both places, but just wondering if anyone who has/has not interviewed here had the same thoughts. I always imagined a peds ER rotation to be an integral part of training. Do you think it would be a real barrier if you wanted to do a peds ER fellowship down the road?

Thanks!

I didn't apply to Stanford or Mayo, and I don't want to do ER, but I just wanted to say that it seems like the 2nd question after "do you have a peds ER?", if the answer is no, is "do you have pediatric emergency medicine attendings?" (those who have done fellowship from either direction). When I've heard that 2nd question asked at places and the answer is "no", it's usually followed by some variation on "but some of the attendings are really amazing!... (and some are kinda iffy with kids)." That second part may be stated, if the resident is pretty candid, or implied. So it's something to think about. I have a hunch that if there isn't a separate peds ER partitioned off from the adult ER (which may well be the case, even in general hospitals), there are unlikely to be Pediatric ER attendings. I don't know that for a fact.
