Hey, i've been searching around these forums and i've seen that an introductory nutrition class doesn't count as science GPA, but the one i'm currently taking is from the biology department and its course name is BIO-154 so do you think it would count towards science GPA? Also, does anyone else have experience with something like this that could share, it would be greatly appreciated

The only definitive way to know is to ask AACOMAS directly. Give them a call or email them.

It's been a bit since I applied, but I recall something about the content of the course being the important factor, not the issuing dept, in such determinations.

I totally agree. I had a seminar class from the biochem department where we discussed no biochem whatsoever. It was more like career prep and presentations. I called it a non-science course, even though the prefix may make it appear otherwise. An honest approach is easy to explain if issues arise.

If you want to count it, they're not going to change anything with a science prefix, so the choice is yours.

I thought Nutrition classes counted toward science gpa as an "other science"

yeah i thought it counted towards sGPA also. i havent seen what classes are suppose to count towards sGPA for osteo schools but i just looked at the allopathic list of classes. I thought my class would count towards my sGPA anyways because I felt like it was very biologically/chemically oriented as it even stated that in the class description . I know that if I hadn't already taken molecular biology and biochemistry and organic chemistry that this class would have been very difficult

As far as I know, if it came from the Biology department, then it can be considered a science course and applied to your science GPA. I'm pretty sure that nutrition is considered "other science".

semicolon, so are you saying that because its from the biology department that I can call it science GPA or because its nutrition even though its from the biology department and is very biology oriented that it should count as "other science". also, do you know if "other science" is still counted towards science GPA?

yeah, other sciences are counted towards science gpa for DO schools.

Well, both really. And as the above poster said, other science indeed counts into science GPA.
