Does a PhD title help to match?

Dear all,
I'm a IMG enrolled in a biomedical PhD program in the United states. Now I'm in the second year. I wonder if get a PhD title will help me to match a residency program in the future. Someone suggest me just quit the PhD program, find a research assocaite/postdoc position, and try to get green card within 3 years. It seems a shortcut. But others suggest that a US PhD title will help to match. Any suggestions?

It helps. Most academic programs look very favorably at mdphds.
