I go to a honors/pass/fail school and was wondering if your % grade in the class matters for class rank (i.e. is a 99% any different than a 90%). I would think not, and that honors is still honors, but the class average on tests has been so high that i could see 1/3 of the class getting all honors during preclinical years. In this scenario how does the school rank students?

Nobody cares about your preclinical grades. Clinical grades aren't numerical.

They factor into AOA though. I guess clinical year is when there starts to be some separation?

Wrong, many schools will keep the actual grade and then use it for ranking.

I know for a fact there is at least one school that uses % exactly for determing AOA for both preclinical and third year grades. Sure the transcipt only shows P/HP/H, but all rankings and AOA come from the exact percentile.

This will obviously vary from school to school
