How could they? What would they verify against...

Yes they do actually. I turned in my transcript and had my app filled out two weeks ago and they actually verified my transcript and sent it back due to a problem. this was two weeks after they marked it as received so it seemed like they were verifying it and that it was what the email said. I think people who were processed within an hour of submitting had their stuff verified before because you can see they all had their transcripts in really early like me.

Edit: But this is probably only true for people who had stuff in really early, not now when the number of apps increases and they start to back up.

Unfortunately, no. They will only start verifying your grades after you submit, because they need to compare your transcripts against the grades you enter manually. They won't have the manually-entered grades until you submit your full application.

How do they verify your future coursework if it's not on the transcript? Or are those not verified?

I'm sure they have enough work to do with the applications that are already submitted, I doubt they would do anything with an unsubmitted ap

I believe what they were "verifying" in this case was that it was an "official" transcript. ie yours was probably missing its seal or something. The verification that everyone speaks of with AMCAS is comparing the official transcript to the grades you manually entered/course classifications etc. so this really can't happen until you submit it.
