I was a swimmer as well (swam at unc) and have had a hard time replacing that intensity of working out. I'll run/cycle and lift but have a hard time getting back into the pool. I wish I had as much time to work out now as i did when i saw (4-5hrs a day as you did) but it's hard w/ school. I've taken up triathlons to channel my competitive drive.

Hey DcS,
I've never been a good runner, but I think I am going to try becoming one. It's my weakness that prevents me from doing triathalons. I'd probably have to start out with a 1/2 triathalon though. I do a lot of kickboxing though...that channels my frustration and you get to punch people too!

Yeah, without a coach and some good competition I can't swim on my own. I lap those old foogies at the YMCA so often that it gets annoying. 🙂

Wieghtlifting has become the epitomy of who can lie the best. ITs easy to write on here that you can bench 500 pounds. I think your in the wrong industry, get out of dentistry and pursue weightlifting. I know I would.

Creatine seems to be working, was not burning out, like I usually do. I felt like I had a little more energy. Did 4 sets of 8 instead of 3 sets of 8 on my tri and lower back. Sweet.

I do 3x100 handpiece reps daily. Works like a charm!

When I flex my hands, the latex gloves swell and a puff of powder billows out the opening. It goes over grea with the kids, and old ladies giggle like Abbott and Costello are in town.

I guess from my post of Florida triceps and biceps of the Pyrenees people couldn't realize my mock for certain individuals. Talkin about workout tips fine. I'm all for working out and have been doing it for years with many accomplishments. But at no time have I felt the need to boast my lifts, gains, and percentages. Just feels like some people need some much needed recognition from strangers like reality TV stars.

Don't worry, some of us took it as a joke and understood your sarcasm. I thought it was pretty funny.

Hey, weightlifter buffs,

I work at a gym now and one of our trainers weighs about 235. He recently maxed 672 pounds. That was with a shirt and granted, his arms are about a foot long, but it is impressive nonetheless. His reps are just so short. I also read an article about a woman who weight 130 pounds benching 390. 300% of her body weight. Absolutely ridiculous.

anyway, happy lifting.

Are you saying you LIED?!?! Does this mean I'm alone in the SDN 500+ benching club? 😉

I put an inch on my biceps, and I have gone from wearing xxl tshirts to xl shirts, I have lost 4 inches of my waist, I think I have put on a total of 10lbs of muscle.

So think the creatine is working, and eating a sensible diet which includes more protein less carbs, and fats. Only draw back is that I will be off creatine in about two weeks.

workout 3-4 days a week and cardio at least 3-days a weeks.

hopin to look like Lou F. or at least Steve reeves.

So I see you actually have a competetive powerlifer at your gym if he indeed uses a shirt. I used to powerlift often, but I was set back by injuries. My stupid RC keeps giving me grief. The most I ever benched was like 315 or so in the 165lb weight class with an Inzer DD shirt.

I read that your suppose to take creatine AFTER your workout? Why is that? Don't you want to take it before you work out so its effective during.

I agree. It takes about 1hr for creatine to be absorbed into the blood stream. If you're taking powder creatine, take it about 1 hr before working out, so you can get the energy boost during workout and your muscles are not depleted of creatine during and after workout. Don't forget to take it with carbohydrate drinks such as Gatorade for it to be effective. Taking it with water is like pissing your money away!

I read that creatine remains in your blood stream from 1.5-2 hrs upto days once it's absorbed into muscles. So I don't think that it's really matters much whether taking it before or after workout. But I prefer taking it before workout for the above reason; plus the protein taking after workout already contains creatine in it, so the extra creatine taking after workout is not really needed.

One of the reasons for taking creatine after a workout is to help with recovery (?) Another possible reason is after a workout the body is in a growth phase (anabolic). Taking creatine after a workout helps getting the creatine absorbed into the muscles.

WHy does it make a difference if your taking it with a sport drink? How does that have anything to do with gettin the creatine absorbed into your body.

"Research" has shown that the increased insulin level (grape juice, carb drinks) increases the amount of creatine absorbed by muscles, thus putting on more weight than without carb drinks. It works for me! Try it yourself, you can see the difference.
There was a guest speaker for my Nutrition class. She's a Register Dietitian who was a trainer for a football team, she also recommended taking carb drinks with creatine.

Interesting. But I also read somewhere that if you take it with acidic drinks like fruit juice that it basically destroys the effectiveness of the creatine. What do you think bout that statement?

I used to work out, but have been lazy several months. The most I've benched is 240 while weighing 165. Not too impressive.

I have two friends that seriously bench over 500 pounds, so I don't automatically assume someone is lying if they make that claim.

That's not the worst of it. It'll put hairs on your nuts. It makes your balls fall off Fred! Have u check your marbles lately? 😀 I take it that you don't workout? Stop reading man, and grab a dumbbell ("a short bar with weights at each end that is used usually in pairs for exercise," incase u don't know! or "one that is dull and stupid," in your case!)

If it's a "friendly question" then I'd like to apologize! just thought that you were f***ing w/ me there! I had never heard of "acidic drinks" using in fitness until now. Plus it's not good for the teeth anyway!
Talking about being shot by friendly fire 😀

I think there been a misunderstanding. I'm not f'ing with you at all, it was a serious question. WHen I say acidic drinks I mean orange or grape juice.

LOL....you guys are the funniest.

This is what happens when you try to ask a friendly question in a thread titled anybody workout in here. Inn2 easy on the roids buddy. I heard it makes your peepee get real tiny.

Creatine works pretty good for me. I take it with grape juice, some dextrose and ALA - alpha lipoic acid. It's an antioxidant and nutrient partitioner that shoves more nutrients and solutes into muscle cells before looking to fat cells. Most people take it when eating carbs to "bulk cut". The only supps you really need to develop a good physique in my op is glutamine, creatine, ALA, and a quality protein powder. Also take 5g creatine 1hr before and 5g immediately after wo. Good luck.

😀 😀 Well if dentistry doesn't work out, I can be a comedian then 😉 paying off the student loans is another story though!

Freddy, my Asian brother! to answer your "friendly question", the pH of purple color grape juice is around 7 so it's somewhat neutral. Creatine is considered basic. So taking it with grape juice is no problemo!
And thus, taking "acidic drinks" with creatine will detroys the effectiveness of creatine. I also heard over the grapevines  that grape juice has alot of antioxidant and good for the heart.

If that's true then I definitely need to start taking roids, lots of them  because mine is like an elephant's! It needs to be reduced!
I tried liposuction, it didn't work, left a nasty scar though 😀
uhhhh, what's roids anyway 😕

btw, looks like somebody's still holding a grudge 😕

hello,
does anybody's hand shake a little more than usual after doing bench, bicep curls, military presses, etc?

to the poster above, my hands use to sake when i first started but now they are ok. The person i work out with, his entire arms use to shake when he went heavy, some of stablizer muscles arent as strong as the main muscle he was trying to work out, this will lead to shaking. Shaking after the set is over.. i have never expierenced that. Are you just starting to work out, if so your body might be getting used to the weight and hence shaking could be a result of that 🙂 .
