Does anyone feel that destroyer is any harder than the actual DAT.

I thought I had a pretty good grip on everything but now I'm answering the Destroyer Q's and I've been getting about 15/40 wrong on Bio. and 13/30 Gen chem Q's wrong.

I plan on making note cards from all the Q's I have wrong but should I be worried that I'm not "getting it"

do not try to do 40 bio, 30 chem and 30 ochem like the test.

Destroyer has no distribution to it. You can run into a slew of questions that are way too easy and they wouldn't ask more than 1 of those if at all. and later followed by ones that are way too hard or too time consuming

You already have a good plan of attack to tackle the problems.

I would add that even if you get an answer correct, like on bio. Know what the other answer choices mean. For chem its a bit hard since some of it is math based. it is somewhat possible with ochem.

what I did was worked out every problem completely, especially with a series of reagents for ochem, I would go this is product 1, then 2, 3,....final.

im getting destroyed too. i open up a word document and type up notes on things that i miss or get wrong. theres a lot of new stuff not covered in kaplan BB too. ex. diels-alder reaction (i was like wtf when i saw that question)

Don't treat destroyer as a practice test, just as a different way of learning 🙂 Know why you got a question wrong and why the other answers are right.

What I'm doing is just putting all my notes from the questions I got wrong into a Google Doc, so I can just read/review this stuff on my iPhone throughout the day...or before I go to sleep. Flashcards never worked for me, so just use whatever learning tool that works best for you!

I thought Destroyer was an accurate representation of the types of problems you'll run across, but there are a higher percentage of more difficult questions in destroyer than on the actual test.

The week before I took my DAT i was getting maybe half of the destroyer problems right. Just make sure you go through it multiple times and really learn the material. Take notes on what you get wrong, you should be fine. I never got more than 65% of my problems right when testing my self through destroyer and ended up getting a 23 in organic and 22 in bio.

I do them in sets of 50 questions.

I just did 50 Bio 36/50. Is this terrible?! I've noticed most these are true/false, and usually are all true, or all false, so you can learn the facts.
I make notes next to all the questions I get wrong.
AHHH I'm going crazy!!

I was about to put the same topic after coming home from the library. I just started the destroyer and its really hard. Does the real DAT exam have a lot of "which of the following are true or false statements."

could you specify further about how you study series of reagents? I too am trying to figure out a good way to study reagents.

I've gone through Destroyer twice, the second time ending this morning. I'm going to go over the problems I got wrong (the second time). I was going to do them again but I don't feel like doing another whole bunch of problems.

To study reagents from Destroyer just write down the one's you don't know and write down what they do when you get to the answer key. If you can't figure it out google it or ask here. That's really all there is to it. O-chem for the DAT is a memory game with a litttttle bit of puzzle added in. I memorize best by working with the information-- in this case doing problems. If you memorize best by using flash cards, then make flash cards out of the reagents you keep forgetting.

thanks lex, i just started destroyer today with bio, its not so bad, can't wait til the orgo. doing the problems isn't the big deal its going over each one after that's time consuming but hopefully it'll be well worth it

well I already memorized the reagents and knew what they would do but what I did was just reinforced things further.

So for instance #129.

it is a series 4 reagents.

So #1 for me would be Benzene + and the 1st set reagent.
#2 would be product of #1 + the 2nd set reagent
#3 would be product of #2 + 3rd set reagent
#4 would be product of #3 + the 4th set reagent and is the final answer.

Essentially I made a mini road map.

I did it for every problem that was more than 1 step.

I figured it would help me with series question but also if they just threw in something else that didn't start with benzene.

I had 2-3 series questions on the test and did the same thing just not as neat. made things easy.

Is it just me that I get addicted to studying destroyer? lol

I feel weird if I dont open this book during the day.
