Does anyone IRL know your SDN name?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Several people know my SDN handle and I would imagine that most people I meet in real life would connect me with my SDN handle fairly easily.

I do tend to be more uncensored on SDN than in reality, but I don't think I've really posted anything that would really bite me in the butt in the future. :xf:

Ah, yes. Many, many IRL people know who I am on SDN...

...the entirety of admissions, the members of the student committee on admissions, 90% of my class's SDN cohort, 90% of the following class's SDN cohort, my premed advisor... about to add the incoming M1s to that list as well.

A few people have identified me (*cough*Slowpoke*cough*). I'm pretty well-behaved on SDN, so I guess it doesn't really matter. But it's kinda weird!

I was quite surprised to find out that just about every premed I know is an SDN member. I can't even remember how I stumbled onto SDN... (back in 2005, I didn't know any premeds).

My academic counselor actually recommends avoiding SDN, but I think it's been the most useful resource by far!!! I probably wouldn't have a medical school acceptance right now if it weren't for SDN!! 😀

I am rather blunt and sarcastic on SDN (moreso then I am in real life). I usually tend to keep to myself and my close friends, so I am pretty sure no one on campus knows who I am. It helps that the pre-med population at irvine is so huge that it keeps the anonymity well.

Bza is easy to spot nowadays on campus though, shes one of the few students working around campus with a big smile on their face since the rest of us are in finals week. :scared:

Congratulations on your acceptance again!!!

😕 3.99 gpa, 3 years research experience, publications+abstracts+posters, 2+ years clinical experience, leadership experience... how did you have so much trouble?

I have been identified by several random people at interviews before. It was scary and was the impetus for my name change. Several future classmates know who I am as well.

I recommend against anyone knowing who you are on SDN or that you post at all. I've had to cool my trolling down because of what people might read which is way less fun.

the people in #sdn know who I am...

yeah, I kind of feel the same.

No one except my siblings and bf, but they won't check this site since none of them are going into medicine. But I think from my posts and MDapps, I'm easily identifiable. I gotta cool that down and throw some false info around

Yep. Lots of people know. :meanie: doesn't bother me any, though. I can post some pretty controversial things and maybe even cuss some, but I can't say I have posted anything completely over the top or inappropriate. People found me at our annual meeting and all that. I don't mind meeting up with SDNers wherever I go.

Hey, I thought you MDapps is vague. You've got some major talent going on from what I read on your PS that you left out of MDapps! 😉

😀 It's our secret haha

and I forgot, you know who I am too! 😍Facebook buddies 🙂

Nope, and I plan to keep it that way

Fortunately only like two of my friends are pre-med, so it won't ever be brought up anyways.

Yeah some people know me for my artistic talent and poetic lyrics. I'm a closet premed.

I was a closet premed.

For the longest time, when people asked what my end goal was I would mention grad school passingly. I don't like the negative connotation associated with being pre-med at my school. Once I studied my ass off and took the MCAT that was when I said.. "well too hell with it, I am pre-med and I should be proud of it".

Though you would never find me prancing around telling people I am pre-med.... those individuals still make me want to vomit.

Yes, have full access to my real-life drama! Ticks, hicks, and all!

I think that you are currently my most popular facebook friend.

... well my mcat isn't the greatest... (and by that I mean pretty bad )... But I mean I learned so much about the application process via SDN. Like the importance of applying early, how to pick schools, sending update letters/LOI (which I didn't know you could even do!), etc. I didn't really know anything about med school admissions until I found SDN. It was also really nice to be able to discuss the application process with other people going through the same thing (none of my premed friends were applying during my cycle).

Now, see, if you're not trolling--which is to say making yourself look like an ass in a public venue frequented by premeds, med students, attendings, and admissions staff--it doesn't matter if they know who you are or not.

Werd.

I've been identified pretty easily and I don't mind. I realize I can be a little harsh, but I don't troll like an idiot or lash out with flaming. I realize people will eventually find out who I am on here because I've used this ID for almost everything.

The only place I don't have this ID is on a car club...which is weird :meanie:

Since I put "SDN Poster" as one of my Work/Experiences on AMCAS with a link to my username, adcoms will know who I am.

Was thinking of putting it as one of my meaningful activities but I have such a lousy post-count to register date ratio that it would make me look like a slacker.

125 posts over 4 years? You might as well put "Volunteering at grocery stores" because you occasionally say hello/greet people at aisles and "interact with people".
