Does anyone know any good summer program?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't done this program, but the University of Pittsburgh offers one and it seems pretty awesome because it's FULLY funded (which is really hard to find):

University of Pittsburgh Office of Diversity Enrichment Programs

Pre-Baccalaureate/Summer Premedical Academic
Enrichment Program
The Summer Premedical Academic Enrichment Program (SPAEP) Level I helps underrepresented high school seniors and college freshmen strengthen academic skills and focus their interest in a medical career. Program courses enhance learning and develop study skills in science, written English and public speaking. You’ll receive a stipend, personal support and academic counseling as well as the opportunity to interact regularly with doctors and medical students with similar backgrounds and educational experiences.

SPAEP Level II gives undergraduate juniors and seniors a mentored research experience and exposure to the hospital environment. Level II also helps prepare you for the medical school admissions process by offering training for the MCAT and interview situations.

Both programs are seven weeks in length and offer housing, meals, travel and stipends. The application deadline is March 1 of each year.

Here's the website, they have the application on there:

I can speak to the UPitt SPAEP program (both level I and II).
I did level I after my freshman year (they wont let you take II until after taking orgo).

What it was good for:
-made some great friends I'll never forget
-overall enjoyable experience in terms of workload/free-time
-Pittsburgh isnt a horrible place to be
-The meal plan and close proximity of the gym was nice.

What it wasnt:
-wasnt challenging academically
-I learned, but only about 1/10th of the stuff said was new to me.

Though I did level I, we lived and hung out with level II so I can speak to what they did as well. Level 2 interns did research in a lab, which seemed pretty standard (in a good way), but I imagine the MCAT class offered wasnt a substitute for a formal Kaplan class, etc, if you can afford one.

So it all depends on what you want out of a summer program. SPAEP would be good to supplement or accelerate a premedical background that isnt horribly strong. If you feel like yours is, and you want to really challenge yourself, I wouldn't suggest SPAEP. If you want a boost to get up to speed in the pre-med world, it'd be a fine choice.
