does anyone know what the stats are for PCOM?

According to the latest edition of U.S. News and World Report, the avg. MCAT is 8.1 (or 24.3 total) and avg. GPA 3.31. The stats here were quite lower than the other schools. But, while my stats are better than these, the weird thing is that I did that even get an interview from them.

from usnews for 2004 (the latest as of Jul 05):

GPA: 3.31

average MCAT composite: 8.1

-PS: 7.7
-BS: 8.3
-WS: O

%accepted enrolled: 56.6
===========================

It appears that PCOM definitely favors in-state applicants when selecting who to interview, with 59.8% of in-state applicants getting interviews vs. 13.4% out-of-state. However, once you get an interview, it seems that you have a two out of three chance of getting accepted whether you're in-state or out-of-state.

It seems like this is a campus that has an out-of-state draw, in that almost half of those accepted from out-of-state choose to attend. It also maintains in-state favor with almost two thirds of those accepted in-state choosing to enroll.

Hi, to find osteopathic schools, you can look at this link:
http://www.aacom.org/data/cib/16-geographic.asp

From this, it appears that TCOM is the only osteopathic medical school in Texas. Interestingly enough, you still have to fill out the Texas medical school application to apply, even though it is an osteopathic school.

Here are some stats for the 2004 entering class for U. of North Texas Health Sci. Center (Texas Col. of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM)) from USNews.com. (the latest as of Jul 05):

GPA: 3.54

average MCAT composite: 8.9
-VR: 8.9
-PS: 8.5
-BS: 9.3
-WS: O

It appears that TCOM heavily favors in-state applicants. TCOM also appears to have an even higher out-of-state draw than PCOM, with 55.6% of those accepted from out of state choosing to enroll (compared to 48.1% for PCOM). TCOM seems to be among the more selective osteopathic medical schools, only accepting about 10.4% of total applicants. Strangely enough, of those D.O. schools that filled out the USNews.com surveys, only UMDNJ is more selective, accepting only 9.4% of total applicants.

In-state applicants are very eager to attend TCOM, with 86.2% accepted choosing to enroll.

At most osteopathic medical schools once you get an interview, you have more than a 50% chance of getting accepted. Some schools accept as many as 85% of those they interview. However, at TCOM, only about a third of those who interview are accepted.

From what I've read of Kim Higgin's blog, TCOM seems like a really great place, and I'm tempted to apply there; however, I'm from California, so I'll most likely go to a school close by. 🙂

what schools are you talking about when you say an 85% chance?

You can see the data posted here:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=2751516#post2751516

What I said was that there were some D.O. schools that accepted as many as 85% of those they interviewed. According to USNews.com, there were four D.O. schools that accepted more than 85% of those they interviewed in 2004:
NYCOM: 85.6%
VCOM: 85.8%
DMU-COM: 85.9%
PCSOM: 89.5%

Good luck.

I wonder if they just are more selective with whom they interview or if they have many who withdraw so that they have to accept more people. This is just for those offered acceptance, not actually those that attended right?
I guess it's not super important to me bc I didn't apply to any of them. Just being curious.
