No, not at all disadvantaged. AMCAS does not begin certifying applications till the end of June / beginning of July. He could very easily submit his primary application June 1 and have MCAT scores uploaded to the system before verification begins.

I have a friend that is taking the MCAT in may and he was wondering if he submitted the app in mid June, would he be in a disadvantage compared to someone who submitted it in early June. He is applying in June 15. Not sure how to respond or answer him.
It won't matter.

It's a pre-med delusion that you have to apply June 1.

Applying with a throw-away school is not a great idea if it means that your personal statement and work/activity (experience, EC) sections will be slap-dash and contain typos or omissions. Remember, there is no going back to fix anything after you submit the AMCAS. Don't try to study for the MCAT and do justice to the AMCAS application.
Submit by July 4th, have letters and secondaries in by Labor Day. On that time line, you should have an interview invite by Thanksgiving Day and an offer of admission by Mardi Gras.

Your friend should be prepared to submit in the first week of June. You do NOT need an MCAT score to submit your primary application.

but putting together a strong application while preparing for the MCAT is not always the road to success.

For me, preparing my application was a good break from studying for the MCAT. If you have good time management skills, it's manageable. Obviously do not submit an application if it is not ready.

I worked on my application throughout the spring semester before I applied. I studied and took the MCAT on May 31st. I took the next week to finish and polish my application and submitted on June 7th. I was verified before the first group of apps went out.

If you don't have an MCAT score your app technically is not ready. There is always the chance you don't get the right score.
Correct me if I'm wrong but even if you apply to only a "throwaway school" you will have to check that box saying "previously applied MD" to all schools you apply to the following year.

Personally I submitted my Primary around June 25th and was still plenty early so why not just wait so there's no chance of being a re applicant?

No, you only are considered reapplicant to the specific schools you previously applied to. Hence why you apply to throwaway school
Got it, that is good to know. I know some schools like Wake Forrest ask if you've ever applied in another cycle in their secondaries, but I was under the impression all schools had access to whether or not you've applied in general during a previous cycle, just not what schools you've applied to.

Schools can also see that you could have applied in the previous cycle ... you had completed the necessary coursework, taken the MCAT, were slated to graduate before the med school matriculation date. Then there is the assumption that you are in a second cycle or wondering why you took the gap year when you could have applied a year earlier.
