it says math: 6 semester units required..a basic understanding of calculus is need. so that means i need calc 1 or what?

Probably, Pre-cal (3 credits) and Calculus (3 credits).

Only 3 creds need to be calculus. the other 3 can be any other math course (eg. Stats, Linear algebra etc etc)
