Does everyone receive secondaries?

So from general remarks i've been seeing while trying to scour this forum for an answer is that most schools generally give you secondaries in order to get more money...

What i would like to know is if everyone gets secondaries, or if it is considered a first cut? (does receiving an application to complete a secondary mean anything?)

Depends on the school. Most schools send them out to every applicant just for applying. Some only send them to screened applicants, so I guess it's sort of like a "first cut" for schools that screen. They usually screen based on numbers (MCAT, GPA, IS/OOS), I think. Check out an MSAR for this info or the website of the school you're applying to.

It may be a first cut to some schools, but I have never heard of a school that didn't ask for the money. I can't find which thread I read this on, but someone said that they submitted their app in July and was asked for the supplementary fee and didn't hear back from the school until the following June that they were rejected. So I guess it depends on the school what the supp means. I would guess that most want to get your money since you must be interested/serious by applying and they have to look over your application. That is why you shouldn't apply to certain schools if you don't think you have any chance or if you have no intentions whatsoever of going there... it would just be a waste of money.
