if I'm recieving rejections now, does that mean my application is worse or anything? Should I use it as a guide for how well I'm doing at other schools or does it not matter?

Rejections mean that you won't be attending that particular school. If you still have interviews, you are "still alive" at schools that haven't sent you a rejection letter. If you haven't heard anything, all is still not lost but start working on a "Plan B" (what you will do if you are not accepted). To not have a "back-up" plan, even if it's to immediately reapply for next year with an upgraded application, is not sound at this point.
I will relate the story of a very close friend of mine who was rejected from all of his state schools (California) and several out of state schools but wound up having to attend the private medical school that was his only acceptance(Harvard). Still, he had his "back up plan" ready to go in case he needed it.
Chill out, cover all of your bases and wait. This is just how medical school admissions will go and the system is not about to change.
