As the title says, what's the consensus on this? Do the school you apply to see your FAP status, and that's how some of them waive their secondary fees? (correct me if I'm wrong).

If that's the case, I wonder does this play into consideration of their decision. Has anyone have the interviewer asking how you will be affording the tuition and living expenses, once accepted?

Helps are much appreciated.

While my parents had a middle class income from my birth to age 18, only my mother is currently employed and they are living on the savings while my father find a stable occupation. Therefore, the income filed for tax return was well below the requirement.

However, I wonder how would this appear on my application. While the income I filled in for parents' combined income from birth to age 18 does not qualify for FAP, if I I got FAP it may appear conflicting to the schools. It's a confusing situation, but what do yo guys think? Are there reasons where FAP should not be applied for?

The school does see your FAP status. Some waive your secondary fees automatically, while others ask for email proof of your FAP waiver and then waive the fee.

Legally, it can't play a role in their decision, because they're not allowed to discriminate based on these kinds of factors. It could (along with your family's income, in your childhood section) be discussed, because schools like to see diverse applicants. Low income could be seen as a form of economic diversity.

I never had an interviewer ask about how I would afford the tuition and living expenses, and I went to quite a few interviews. I'm sure they'll assume you'll be taking out student loans... as does almost everyone.

If you say you come from a disadvantaged background it will substantiate that claim.

FAP was not designed for people with parents who are physicians and who are solidly middle class. Some ADCOMs might think your a shyster, others might not notice or care.
